The Little Prince asked Saint-Exupery "Please draw me a sheep".
For my part my daughter asked me "Please draw me a skull, I love it too! ".
So, I started to exercise and realized the first of three. She called two others for the perfect balance.
Then, as a nod to a series of serigraphs by Andy WARHOL, it was necessary for me to develop colorful variations of these 3 skulls.
These paintings entitled "SKULLS" highlight the representation of skulls as a central subject. The depiction of skulls in art is an ancient and universal phenomenon that has been used to represent death and transscience in various cultures.
Mexican artists were among the first to use skulls as a symbol in their art. Their depictions of skulls are often colorful and lively, reflecting their belief in life after death and resurrection. In ancient art, skulls were often associated with religion and death. For example, in Maya art, skulls were depicted in frescoes and sculptures to represent deities associated with death. Similarly, in Egyptian art, skulls were often associated with death, and they were often included in tombs to help guide the souls of the dead into the afterlife.
Contemporary artist Andy Warhol also used skulls in his work. In contemporary art, skulls are often used to explore themes of death, to refer to wars, social conflicts and environmental destruction.
The SKULLS paintings are a unique collection of artworks that explore themes of death and transience through the use of skulls. Each of the paintings feature skulls in a distinct way, reflecting the different color perspectives and different social, historical and cultural backgrounds of the artists.
These SKULLS paintings are a tribute to the depiction of skulls in art, particularly the colorful and vivid depictions of Mexican artists and Andy Warhol's explorations of themes of death and transience. These paintings offer a unique opportunity to reflect on the importance of this iconography in art through the centuries and how through history to explore the most fundamental questions of life and death.
How fuzzy, inconsistent and disturbing it would seem to be a living thing if there was not a skull in it.
Jacques PREVERT
By the way, do you know Montaigne's essay on death, in which he recommends living in a room whose window overlooks a cemetery? Because for him, it allows to keep in mind the priorities of life.
Irvin David YALOM
The skulls always seem to laugh because the dead laugh at being taken seriously in their lifetime.
Pierre-Henri CAMI
