The paintings in the "CONSTRAINTS" series are works that focus on the different types of constraints: social, economic, cultural, religious, bodily and sexual that we can undergo or choose to experience in our daily lives. These paintings offer a reflection on the limits that society imposes on us, the cultural norms that we adopt and the personal choices that we make in terms of identity.
The artistic work focuses on how these constraints can define us as individuals and the consequences of accepting or rejecting them. It explores themes of freedom, self-determination and conformity, showing how social norms can sometimes be oppressive, but also how we can choose to accept them for personal or cultural reasons.
These paintings are painted in an abstract and symbolic way. They invite the viewer to question the conventions that define us and to reflect on the choices we make in terms of identity and freedom.
Social constraints are the norms imposed by society that dictate how we should behave and what is expected of us. They can include expectations of gender, race, social class…
Economic constraints are the limits imposed by the economic context, such as wage inequalities, limited opportunities for certain populations, etc.
Cultural constraints are the norms and values imposed by the culture in which we live. They can include attitudes towards sexuality, religion, family…
Religious constraints are the norms imposed by religious beliefs and practices. They can include prohibitions in terms of behavior, food, sexuality, etc.
Body constraints are the physical limits imposed by our body. They can include illnesses, disabilities, differences in height, weight…
Sexual constraints are the norms imposed by society regarding sexuality. They can include expectations of gender, sexual orientation, sexual behavior and practice…
Ultimately, these paintings offer a unique perspective on the complexities of modern life and our place in the world. They invite the public to reflect on the forces that define our lives and the choices we can make to escape or adhere to the constraints and live in a self-determined way. They can initiate deep reflection on themes of freedom, conformity and identity, inviting the audience to explore their own perceptions and beliefs.
