LIKE A HAND EXTENDED IN RECOGNITION
The gesture is far from being insignificant in the expression of our social relations and because of its active importance during our exchanges, of the induced meaning that it evokes, it must deserve all our consideration, just like the medical profession which accompanied during this pandemic.
In the beginning, long before the word, was the gesture. And as Michel Guérin writes in “Philosophy of gesture”, the gesture attests to an “animal wanting to say”.
For Ernst Cassirer too, it is the gesture that makes a sign, which would be at the origin of language.
The gesture is part of our method of communication, it maintains a close relationship with our speech, it puts the signifier into image and mimics the signified. He invites himself into the conversation to bring color, depth and identity to our words.
In GESTURES the hand is not represented as a prehensile member, capable of grasping, manipulating, making, writing, touching. She is represented in her gestural role, that which signifies.
Still according to Michel Guérin, it would even seem that the gesture would perhaps be nothing other than the very movement of thought.
Gesture thus contributes, in relation to words, to the construction and transmission of meanings. It brings additional ideas to those evoked by the speech, and promotes the production of the latter. It participates in the effort of verbalization in redundancy or in complementarity with verbal expression.

Semaj invites you to SUPPORT THE GESTURES PROJECT through PARTNERSHIPS that will contribute to the realization of the GESTURES exhibition, whose main objective is to OFFER THE MEDICAL CORPS TWO MAJOR WORKS.

The pandemic that our world has just suffered from the full force, we have not forgotten it.
The 8 p.m. applause during the first wave of Covid, to thank the nurses, we remember
vaguely.
And what about today ?
By way of recognition and not to forget the dedication and investment of the medical profession who was on the front lines in this ordeal, Semaj wishes to offer him two major works which will be installed in two separate places.
Reward health personnel.
Even if the world today shows great resilience following this pandemic which has affected it, it is important not to forget the commitment, availability and dedication of all health personal during the critical moments of this planetary ordeal.
EXHIBITION
GESTURES, which focuses on the symbolism of the gesture that unites and communicates, has three main objectives:
◉ that of offering the public to meet my latest works,
◉ that of relaunching my artistic career after a delicate period,
◉ and especially that of allowing the financing of the two major pieces that will be offered.
The beneficiary structures of the two works offered have yet to be selected.
Semaj would like to be able to offer the two major works to two medical structures (RHENA Clinic in Strasbourg and Albert SCHWEITZER Hospital in Colmar or DIACONAT FONDERIE Clinic in Mulhouse).
The dates and location of the exhibition have yet to be determined.

The two paintings will be hung on the wall with spacers, to allow the placement of a LED lighting path between the wall and the two artworks.

Acrylic varnish finish
The painting is presented in two levels of Dibond aluminum panels, cut by milling according to predefined shapes before carrying out the acrylic paint job.
The wall to receive the painting will be prepared with an abstract spray paint. Then the bottom of the painting will be hung on the wall with spacers, to allow the placement of a LED lighting path between the wall and the cut-out elements of the latter. Then will be placed the elements cut out with the gesture of the hand on this background already fixed to the wall with a second set of spacers, to create a second offset.
